Pot scrie din punctul de vedere al unei cititoare de psihologie ş i psihanaliz ă , m ă a ş teptam la un roman greoi ş i lipsit de sl ă biciune, fric ă , bun ă tate, bl â nde ţ e, sentimente ş i iubire. I felt rather disappointed with the thorough description of an abrupt character , a wealthy outsider, a rebel of society because of the sexual controversy of her behavior and afterwards, of her inclination to love and live with women. It’s sad the actual way the same sex love is depicted and judged, misjudged of course, seen as an inversion, like Richard von Krafft-Ebing and Havelock Ellis thought, who argued that lesbianism was not a matter of choice, but was an affliction caused by “congenital inversion” that was present from birth. I found the whole story a shrine to Jacob Flanders, he is the real plot of the inexistent storyline. It’s like a sketch of the Great Gatsby, rather seen through the eyes of the other characters. The dialogues, the life quotes, the wishful thinking are modern, yet Jacob is not present. It’s like the story of the soul inside from outside.
